The Smashing Pumpkins at Gila River Arena Show Review

On July 12th 2018 on a cool summer night in the heart of Glendale, Arizona The Smashing Pumpkins kicked off their Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour. With the tour not selling very well I was sceptical with how the attendance would be.

With three-fourths of Smashing Pumpkins’ founding lineup — frontman Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin — are reuniting for a US tour this summer. It marks the trio’s first such outing together since 2000 and comes in celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary.

With it being a hot humid week night in Glendale, they still managed to sell roughly 7,000 ticket to the first night of the tour at Gila River Arena. It makes you wonder though, if founding bassist D’arcy Wretzky did not start a war with Corgan just days before tickets went on sale would that have made a difference??

With the night kicking off The Pumpkins opened up with an older crowd favorite “Disarm”, followed up by “Rocket” and “Siva”. With the crowd still entering the arena they continued it with an even older song “Rhinoceros”. They finally kicked it up a few years and continued the night with “Space Oddity”. The band continued the night with a long list of 31 songs. Everything from “Mayonaise”, “Cherub Rock”, “Ava Adore” and so much more. They finished up the night with two encore songs of “Solara” and “Baby Mine”.

At the end it was an amazing night filled with some great old memories growing up with a band I have been listening to for ages.
