Soilwork Coverage at Marquee Theatre May 2016

It’s Friday night May 6th, 2016 and tonight Soundwave Brigade is out at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe, Arizona and we have come here to cover Soilwork!

Soilwork is a Melodic Death Metal band that originated in Helsingborg, Sweden. In 1995 the band was originally known as Inferior Breed and in 1996 the band changed their name to Soilwork (meaning “working from the ground up”). Along with the new band name also came a change in their music as they would incorporate a more melodic music style. Their demo entitled In Dreams We Fall into the Eternal Lake, by what has become known as a chance encounter with Michael Amott of Arch Enemy, who owned a record store in Helsingborg, Soilwork gave Michael a copy of their demo and this would lead the band into signing with Listenable Records.

Under Listenable Records, Soilwork would release Steelbath Suicide in 1998 and The Chainheart Machine in 2000, with their second album achieving critical acclaim that would bring the band a recording contract with the label Nuclear Blast that continues to date.

Soilwork has made their presence known in their 2 decade plus musical journey around the world with sharing the stage with many notable acts on the many tours over their history as a band. With releasing 10 studio albums to date, and with their latest release of The Ride Majestic , Soilwork continues to venture forward and Soundwave was able to cover and get an interview with Dirk, while on tour with Fear Factory as they made their stop to play here in Tempe, Arizona.

Soilwork has had a lot of talented musicians join them over their now 21st year of performing and recording music, and taking the stage tonight in their current lineup consisting of founding member Bjorn “Speed” Strid (Vocals), Sven Karlsson (Keyboards), Dirk Verbeuren (Drums), Sylvain Coudret (Guitar), David Andersson (Guitar), and Markus Wibom (Bass). They begin their set with “The Ride Majestic” and with a slow melodic intro that explodes into the complex melodic metal style that Soilwork is known for with the harsh/clean vocals of Bjorn, the excited crowd is beginning the audio roller coaster ride that fills their ears.

There have been many reports and reviews of Soilwork about their live performances as being high energy and ripping it up, and yes while up on stage the members of Soilwork seem to energize and give their all and is clearly visible on all their faces that this is the moment they have been waiting for, to get out there and tear it up in front of their fans. With the frontline of the band performing close to the edge of the stage, Bjorn stepping forward and calling upon Arizona to “make some noise!”, and the crowd answering in cheers and loud whistles…you knew that the audience was excited and so was Soilwork and this is going to be an awesome show!

Performing a mixture of songs from their catalog such as “Follow the Hollow”, “Bastard Chain”, and “Rejection Role” were very well received by the crowd as the set list was an awesome mix of Soilwork’s musical evolution over the years. Closing the show with “Stabbing the Drama” , Soilwork exits the stage with many fans still showing their approval and appreciation with applause and whistles. Before the show we sat down and did an interview with Dirk Verbeuren, and one thing he said of note is they care about their fans and they strive to give their fans what the expect of them…and Soilwork delivered on that ……they kicked ass on stage and had fun doing it and so did their fans. So as always Soundwave Brigade invites you to enjoy our photo coverage and our interview with Dirk.
