Razorwire Halo “Retaliate” Album Review

Razorwire Halo – “Retaliate” (Unsigned)
By: Tom Hanno

Razorwire Halo is an electro/industrial rock band from Kansas City, Missouri. Influenced by the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Gravity Kills, Orgy, Stabbing Westward, Kidney Thieves, The Birthday Massacre, Garbage, and they wear their influences on their sleeves; a bit too much so in the eyes of this reviewer. Their new album, Retaliate, is available now.

For being an award winning electro-rock group I was expecting a bit more from this act. What they do will suck in people who enjoy industrial themed music, but I was completely unimpressed by this album. They seem to bounce back in forth between Marilyn Manson, Stabbing Westward, and Nine Inch Nails, and all within the context of the same song; no matter what song on this release is being discussed. I absolutely was left with a bad taste in my mouth by this record. I enjoy when a group will show their influences in a subtle manner, but when they very obviously try to sound like the top three bands in the genre, well, that’s where they lose me; it’s almost like stealing from those bands.

If you enjoy this form of music, and don’t mind hearing the same thing on repeat fro 6 songs, then this is the album for you. However, if you enjoy more than just one trick in a bands arsenal, then I would steer you away from this album. There is absolutely no new ground covered, no leaps in style, and to obviously trying to be their favorite artists. So if you can handle monotony, then check out Retaliate.
