Future:

FUTURE is now. While the climate of brown America hovers around hellish, its red-dyed streets ache for authentic voices to relay frustration and provide aspiration. In 2015, not many music artists can service both better than the Freebandz/EPIC Records rapper, singer, songwriter, producer and Atlanta bi-product of the legendary Dungeon Family. In just a few years, the devilishly stylish multi-talent has crafted an impressive career off supplying full feasts for audio junkies.

Slightly Stoopid:

While it’s a rare commodity for a band to tour as consistently as Slightly Stoopid, the group’s diligent commitment to live music provides some insight into their loyal fan base and unique creative metamorphosis throughout their 17-year existence. Though it’s been a couple of years since the release of their last studio album, Top Of The World (August 14, 2012), the Ocean Beach, California-based group—led by co-founders and multi-instrumentalists Kyle McDonald and Miles Doughty—have also found the same passionate dedication to their studio craft, holing up between tours in their own San Diego recording studio and record label complex. The balance of a prolific touring regimen between albums have helped to refine the tasty fusion and massive groove that permeates Stoopid’s trademark sound and seven album catalogue, as well as their live shows.

Atmosphere:

Minneapolis is known for many things — pretty lakes, the Mall of America, lutefisk. But 17 years ago, hip-hop act Atmosphere transformed the city into something else entirely: a nexus from which underground rap spiraled-out to the masses. And thanks to the duo’s indefatigable touring habits, Top 20-charting albums, and their galvanizing artist-owned label Rhymesayers (MF Doom, Aesop Rock), they’re still pushing the boundaries of what indie rap can mean.

It’s with that overachieving-underdog spirit that MC Sean “Slug” Daley and producer Anthony “Ant” Davis have named Atmosphere’s eighth studio album Southsiders (out May 6), a shout-out to their native neighborhood. Because, says Slug, “We have spent the majority of our career — God, we can call it a career! — repping the south side of Minneapolis pretty hard.”

Dirty Heads:

The Sound of Change can’t come from external forces, it has to emanate from within. For Dirty Heads, evolution beyond their reggae-rock roots has developed over time and is manifested on their new album “Sound of Change.” Due out summer 2014 via Five Seven Music, the album boasts some of the groups’ most diverse and ambitious work to date. “Sound of Change” takes a literal meaning with the production of this album, as the band links up with Grammy award winning producer Supa Dups (Nina Sky, Bruno Mars), Buddah Shampoo (Ty Dolla $ign), Niles (of hip hop duo, The Cataracs), Ward 21 (311, Major Lazer reggae collaborators) and long-time friend and collaborator, Rome (Sublime).

TY Dolla $ign:

“My music is a vibe,” Ty Dolla $ign says. “It’s R&B that you can fuck to, not make love to.” No games. It’s sonic Spanish fly. Play it loud enough with the right alchemy of illicit substances and it could incite an orgy.

Right now, the Atlantic Records artist might be the hottest singer in LA. His breakout mixtape, 2012’s Beach House gets nastier than Luther Campbell or Nate Dogg ever wanted to be. Drugs, sex, and stripper booty popping. Just the finer things in life.

His hit single “My Cabana” was not only last summer’s 24-7 party anthem, it figures to be played in every pool and beachside cabana from here until the liquor finally runs out (or no more people can fit in).

Fishbone:

Celebrating 25+ groundbreaking years, FISHBONE has been trailblazing their way through the history of American Ska, Funk, Punk, Rock Fusion and (so-called) Black Rock since starting their professional career in Los Angeles’ burgeoning, Alternative Rock music scene of the mid-1980s. Their sound has often been imitated, but never duplicated. They have toured worldwide with such bands as the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Roots, Les Claypool/Primus, Fela Kuti, George Clinton, The Dead Kennedys and many more. Angelo Moore’s ability to combine thought-provoking, humorous social commentary with FISHBONE’s frenzied, up-tempo music and frantic, euphorically entertaining stage show has cultivated their undisputed reputation as one of the best live acts in music history.

311:

311 was formed in 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska by singer/guitarist Nick Hexum, singer S.A. Martinez, guitarist Tim Mahoney, drummer Chad Sexton and bassist P-Nut. Since 1993, the band has made their home in Southern California.

Rebelution:

“Too blessed to be stressed,” is one of many key song lyrics from Rebelution’s new album Count Me In. The California band’s fourth full- length release on its own label 87 Music, and partnering for the first time with Easy Star Records, marks its tenth year together. And while surely every band has its share of stress, Rebelution feels they have been “too blessed” to have much time to worry about it.

Said guitarist/singer Eric Rachmany about the band in its decade milestone, “we still have the same energy as we did as a young band, if not more. The more experience we had doing this, the more inspired we became.”

Jay Rock:

For a rapper to command your attention, it all comes down to the voice. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Public Enemys Chuck D had millions of fans hanging on to every word of his booming baritone. In the mid-1990s, The Notorious B.I.G.s steely poise and vocal precision led many critics and fans to proclaim him the best rapper of all time. Now, in 2006, get ready for the next rapper with a magnetic voice, someone whose pristine raps demand attention. His name: Jay Rock.

Protoje:

There is an exciting resurgence of conscious, organic music in Jamaica and industry experts and observers agree that Protoje is playing an important role in what is becoming known as the “Reggae Revival.”

Leading the militant band – The Indiggnation – this powerful songwriter and philosophical thinker articulates the righteous anger of an emerging generation. Protoje reports for duty, re-establishing the standard for the decaying art of socially responsible, mentally stimulating lyricism.

Later on, bassist Ryan Weddle joined the band to complete the current line up. The band gained notoriety by creatively blending elements of rock, funk, blues and hip hop.

They’re Katas-trific!

Mouse Powell:

Tempe, Arizona based rapper Mouse Powell burst on to the local music scene in 2011 with his debut album Where It’s Cloudy. Powell quickly started carving a niche for himself by integrating his witty sense of humor with soulful production and live instrumentation. His latest release “These are the Good Times” was a free record produced by  fellow Arizonan native The Ref, and garnished him national attention. The rapper has cut his teeth on the road, touring with acts such as Grieves from Rhymesayers Entertainment as well as sharing the stage locally with everybody from Macklemore to Phife Dawg. His show is an eclectic whirlwind of crowd interaction and energy.  As Powell gears up to release an as of yet untitled follow up record in 2016 his following and artistry continues to grow.
