Pot of Gold coverage 2016

Pot of Gold 2016

With 2016’s take on Pot of Gold Music Festival deviating greatly from last year’s, this time being held at Rawhide, instead of Tempe Beach Park, and spanning two nonconsecutive days, instead of four straight, things could not be anymore different.
Big Sean-10

Day One, headlined by Future (Not featured in photos), and supported by Slightly Stoopid, Atmosphere, Dirty Heads, as well as Ty Dolla Sign and Fishbone (Also not featured in photos); Day Two, headlined by Big Sean, and supported by 311, Rebelution, as well as Rae Sremmurd, Earl Sweatshirt, Protoje, Katastro, and Mouse Powell (Also not featured in photos), made for an interesting Festival line-up this year. The concoction of Reggae/Rap-Hip Hop and early 90’s artists brought thousands to Rawhide, however, and made for two nights to remember.
Dirty Heads-5

The scorching Arizona heat beaming down on festivalgoers Thursday, March 17th, did not seem to be a deterrent as the first of the bands took the stage at 2p.m. By the time Dirty Heads made their way on, the crowd was drenched in sweat and everyone had pushed up against the barricade, ready for more. Following Dirty Heads was Atmosphere, whose career has spanned from the early 90’s. The audience was pumped for their show and they did not disappoint. Lyrical rhymes came flowing from the stage as the crowd engaged in Atmosphere’s performance. Next up was Slightly Stoopid, who mellowed the crowd out with their Reggae beats, laid-back vocals, and drowsing brass horns.

A break between days gave some relief to the heat as festival attendees returned to Pot of Gold on Saturday March 19th to see many more acts. Doors opened at 12p.m. and the crowd rushed in for the opening acts. By the time Rebelution took the stage at 7:15p.m., everyone was drenched in sweat, but could not be happier, as the Reggae-fueled band put on an amazing show for them. A mixture of relaxing guitars, thumping bass, humming vocals, and horns made for a chilling evening as Rebelution played on. Next up was a crowd favorite, and one not to be missed, 311. Always a pleasure to see, they got festivalgoers pumped and ready for more. Their screaming guitars and rhyming vocals got the crowd up and jumping, and ready for the headliner that night, Big Sean. Finally, at 11:15p.m., Big Sean took stage at Pot of Gold 2016. Dressed to impress, he came out atop his DJ platform spitting out rhymes and beats like nobody’s business. The crowd went wild as he made his way down from his platform and onto the stage, interacting with fans and continuing to flow with the rhythm of the night.

Despite the heat and the initial skepticism of the venue choice, Pot of Gold 2016 seems to have been quite the success. Various acts ranging from Reggae based artists to Hip-Hop and Early 90’s brought thousands to Rawhide this year, with the potential for even more at the next year’s festival. We shall see what the future holds for Pot of Gold 2017.
