Foo Fighters at Talking Stick Arena – Oct 2018 Show Coverage

Coverage/Photos By Daisy Fromkin

Foo Fighters is a band and an American icon that formed in 1994 by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as the only offical member.  Since its inception it has grown into a full sized and larger than life with 25 years of music in its wake.

Grohl delivered a solid performance maxing out his tank and giving it all at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix Arizona. He held true to his Rock hero status with solid unwavering energy through out the entire performance.  He ran onto the stage with enthusiasm and held on all evening. Grohl stated “you know why I’m here? Because I love Rock and Roll” and if any message was clearer with actions as well as words, it was just that.

The dedication the band has to continuing to deliver the arena rock concert experience is exceptional. At the third song during a drum solo the drum riser rose above the crowd like a giant autobot extending its legs with Taylor Hawkins at its controls.  It was both powerful and an awe-inspiring declaration of rock-god status.

Each member of the band had their shining moments, Keyboard player Rami Jaffee showed his skills with a mash-up of Van Halen and John Lennon.  Guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel and Guitarist Chris Shiflett all held the energy, the power and surprisingly goofy humor throughout the entire show, creating a warm exchange between the Band and the audience that transcended even the massive size of the arena.

The Foo Fighters hit the gas at 1st song and powered their through songs from their new album  “Concrete and Gold” and then started to wind backward, Grohl having promised at least one song off every album, they took us on a flight of 25 years of music, trimming the fat off then ends to try an get as many songs as possible in, until finally dropping us off the magic carpet ride at Everlong with the same speed and passion as first note.
